H. C. R. 8--"Designating U.S. Route No. 19, which connects Interstate 77, north of Beckley, to Interstate 79, south of Sutton, as the 'Mountaineer Expressway'."
Whereas , U.S. Route No. 19 runs from the Mountain Country of Northern West Virginia to the Southern West Virginia Highlands through some of the State's most beautiful scenery; and
Whereas , U.S. Route No. 19 accesses West Virginia's nationally known White Water Rafting Industry that goes down the New and Gauley Rivers; and
Whereas , U.S. Route No. 19 traverses the New River at the internationally known New River Gorge Bridge, which is the longest steel arch bridge in the world and second highest bridge in the United States and is also famous for its celebrated "Bridge Day" festivities; and
Whereas , The area around U.S. Route No. 19 is host to some of the best recreational and tourist sites that West Virginia and only West Virginia can offer; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That U.S. Route No. 19 which connects Interstate 77, north of Beckley, to Interstate 79 south of Sutton, be designated the "Mountaineer Expressway"; and, be it
Further Resolved , That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor and the Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
